How do I use a VoIP service to place International calls?

Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, is a technology by which telephone calls are placed over the Internet rather than over the standard Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), also known as the land line network.

You use the same dialing format to call someone internationally over a VoIP network that you would from your land line. In some instances you may not have to dial the actual Country Code though. For instructions on how to place your call use our calling codes search.

Advantages to VoIP

There are several advantages to using a VoIP service:

  1. Making international calls with a VoIP service is often much cheaper than calling from a traditional land line telephone. Often, calls are just a few cents per minute. Check with your VoIP service for specific dialing rates before placing a call.
  2. You can often purchase an international number. If you live in the United States, but most of your family or business contacts live in the UK, a VoIP service would enable you to purchase a local number in the UK, making it very inexpensive or even free for others to call you.
